The Beauty of Dance Friendships
‘Friends that Dance together, stay together’
Every day in the JOKSOD studio we are lucky to witness beautiful friendships blossoming amongst the students. These are relationships that transcend age, school and ability, they are formed and cemented with a combined love of dance.
Friends that you make outside of school are truly special as they grow with you throughout your formative years and you bond over impactful shared experiences, like examinations, dance competitions and concerts. Experiences you treasure and that stay with you forever.
We have so many examples of beautiful friendships that have begun at JOKSOD…..
“I enjoy going to dancing to see my friends because sometimes after a long day of school it's refreshing to talk with people who share the same interests and love to dance as much as we do. We love dancing as a team and experiencing competitions together. We enjoy when we get to choose groups to dance in with the people we have a connection with. We are looking forward to spending more time in the studio this year with our teachers ,and growing our friendships with everyone.”

Our former students, Tess and Ella, danced together from the age of 4 until 18 at JOKSOD and have cemented a life-long friendship. And it’s not just the students that become friends, it’s the parents too!
“So many memories of comps and fun times & friendships override them all. So many friendships, that we both will treasure. I still get together with 6 or so lovely past JOKSOD Mums, every so often.”
~ Deb (Tess’ mum)
“The culture at JOKSOD is definitely something to be revered. As the parent of more than one dancer - I have had the enormous privilege of making some amazing friendships across different age groups.. friendships that will continue long after our days at the studio are finished. It’s amazing to find yourself amongst parents who are just as happy for your child’s successes as you are. These are the women that get you through the madness of late night performances when comps are running over time.. the ones armed with hairspray and spare tights when yours have mysteriously disappeared (not packed!) and the ones that cry with you and laugh harder through the roller coaster that is our crazy dance life! Our dance family is not just about the kids or dance - it’s a community of passionate families supporting each other amongst the sea of sequins & bobby pins.”

We have students that have moved to JOKSOD in the midst of their dance training and have been welcomed with open arms by our existing students:
“I made the move to JOKSOD in 2019 when I was 12, when I first moved I was scared that I wasn’t going to make any friends at all but that all changed. Miss Jo introduced me to a group of girls on my first day and they have become some of my closest friends. I’ve been so lucky to be involved in the loving and caring community that JOKSOD is . I love having friends at dance because we all share one big common interest (of course it’s dance) having friends in dance makes it so much fun to go to the studio everyday and see them. I’m so thankful for all the amazing friendships I have made a JOKSOD I’ve the past 3 years, I know these friends are lifelong.”
~ Lily Woods
And also our younger students have such wonderful experiences together:
“I’ve been so lucky to make such lovely friendships at dancing even though I started just before we went into COVID lockdown. I love going to dancing and spending time with my friends it makes the classes even more enjoyable when you have your friends with you. This year I chose to celebrate my birthday with my dance friends for a sleepover and we did lots of dance themed activities – it was so fun!”
